NICKY HODGE

Nicky trained at St. Martins School of Art in London followed by an advanced Fine Art course and has continued to develop her artistic career with writing, curating as well as exhibiting. Her Small Memories series, a selection of which you see here, provide glimpses of passing moments on tiny paintings that fit in the palm of the hand.

Small Memories series
Playing with notions of memory, loss and transience, Nicky Hodge creates tiny paintings of half-remembered landscapes: people isolated on streets, objects remembered from childhood, parts of roof tops and planes fading into backgrounds. Produced in series, painted in oil on chunky blocks, they are to be displayed on a shelf like an incomplete jigsaw or toy soldiers waiting to be moved around. These fragmentary paintings do not permit a fixed reading, the story is there for the viewer to construct. Each intimate, ambiguous image could be read as part of a bigger picture, yet one that also resists the idea of completion.
