Drawing & Painting
DANIEL WILLIAMS

Born in Walthamstow, London in 1982, Daniel Williams is a fine artist raised, and now working in Abergavenny, South Wales. Daniel was educated at Middlesex University, London and Blackpool & The Fylde College, studying a degree in Scientific and Natural History Illustration.

Following an expedition to Mount Kinabalu in Sabah, Borneo, Dan became the first, and only person to paint the extremely rare endemic orchid Paphiopedilum ooii from the series 'Orchids of Mount Kinabalu, Borneo.' The painting is now in the collection at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew accompanying his earlier drawing of Vanilla imperialis.

Since mid 2008 in a complete departure from his previous painting Daniel has been producing a new body of work. Dan celebrates the richness and intensity of colour through overlaying, combining and imposing colours on one another. The abstract painting frequently draws inspiration from architecture amongst other visual stimuli.

With no conscious intent to record the actual reference material, he may allude to forms as a result of looking. Through the process of painting an image gradually evolves. Ultimately the subject is the paint itself. Beyond this is a combination of recall and reference to physical objects.

Dan has shown at The National Botanic Gardens of Wales, The Royal Horticultural Society, London as well as private galleries. Daniel also has work in collections in the UK, US and Malaysia.
