BOOK MAKING WITH JESSIE CHORLEY
Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th July 2008, 9:30am - 4:30pm.
Workshop - £65 including lunch.
Spend the day making story books, scrap books and memory books from found and recycled materials with book artist Jessie Chorley.

Workshops at The Art Shop are very small with emphasis on one to one contact with the tutor. Lunch is cooked in our kitchen - we bake bread and use fresh, local produce.
Workshops cost £65 including lunch. Discount is given on purchasing art materials.

This workshop is very versatile and is aimed at any ability. The aim of the workshop is for the students to leave the class with a finished piece of work. This could be something very simple - a small stitched unfolding book or something more complicated and perhaps more 3D.
Each student will be encouraged to work with a particular narrative. This could be a dream, a real life situation, or a simple made up story. Students are advised to bring to the class either an object, a drawing or anything else that may trigger or evoke a personal narrative for them.
With my own work I work directly in to old books, using collage, cutting, gluing, sewing, paper-mache, paint and incorporating found objects and materials. Again these techniques used can be as simple or as complicated as the students will manage on the day.

A message for you who will be attending the class...
The class is very open to your own concepts and ideas. Please bring with you things that will inspire you on the day as a starting point for a new piece of work. Basic materials like glue, scissors, brushes and some fabrics will be provided for you.

The kind of materials to bring with you are...
Cloth, assorted fabrics, lace, ribbons
Old books, photos, lettering, old text, poems, things to cut up and incorporate into a work.
Old cardboard or metal boxes, good for packaging and covering in paper-mache
Buttons, bead, family memorabilia, i.e. photos etc.
Anything else that is personal and inspiring to you.

The class really is very relaxed and it is a lovely day getting to know each other, and very exciting starting a new piece of work. The day will hopefully be a starting point for you to carry on making books/works on your own after the class in the near future.
