The core basis of my ideas stems from studying personal history and the importance of memory in preserving personal identity.
Inspired by family photography and the strong bonds we feel towards our personal possessions, my work evokes memory by expressing delicate, ghost- like and ephemeral qualities which allude to the fragile and transient nature of memory.

By using the feather as a symbolic material (a feather is said to be the measure of your soul), I have created some emotional body pieces which wrap around and embrace the neck and shoulders like a security blanket.

The sensitivity and lightness of the feather is juxtaposed with the idea of memory being heavy with meaning, commenting on the ambiguous nature of memory as it fades into a mythical vision. Some feathers have been printed with traces of memory and are either layered or stand alone.

Alongside my main body of work I am developing a range of jewellery using printed feathers which have images from old postcards, fabrics, letters and keepsakes.

I feel my work crosses some boundaries between art, fashion and jewellery and could be viewed in several different contexts. Essentially my work has become quite autobiographical but feel others too may identify with it and see something of themselves within.
